Labrador West is getting back fire protection at the airport.
Transport Canada pulled the service about four years ago, leaving it up to the municipalities.
Labrador MP Yvonne Jones says Wabush did not meet certain criteria, particularly the number of passengers per year. The minimum is 180,000.
Jones says activity at the Wabush Airport has picked up considerably since the 2020 when the service was withdrawn.
Jones says the next step is to advertise for a provider.
She says firefighting should not be based solely on the number of passengers going through but the size of the aircraft, the size of the airport, and Transport Canada has decided to look at that,” says Jones.
