Anyone who pulled into the parking lot of Twin Rinks in St. John’s last evening will have noticed a big change.
The facility has a new name—the Capital Mitsubishi Arena.
Twin Rinks has been operated by the Avalon Arenas Association for the last 50 years. The association purchased the old Axtion building in the city’s east end and converted it into the Capital Subaru Arena which opened to players and skaters last year.
Kenny O’Leary, the former VP of Hockey Operations with the Newfoundland Growlers was hired by the association earlier this year after the Growlers folded. At the time, O’Leary indicated that expansion was among the association’s top priorities. Further details on the name change are expected to be released sometime today.
