Statistics Canada says retail sales rose 2.5 per cent nationally to almost $70-Billion in December, boosted by gains at food and beverage retailers and motor vehicle and parts dealers.
However, the advance estimate for January suggests retail sales fell 0.4 per cent in the first month of 2025.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, retail sales rose by 8.3 per cent from December 2023 to December 2024, topping a billion dollars. From November 2024 to December 2024, retail sales rose by 0.4 per cent in NL.
