Provincial forestry officials are warning of an early start to the forest fire season.
Unusually dry conditions due to relatively light snowfall accumulations over the winter months means the forest fire season officially begins today on the island and May 15 in Labrador.
That means burn permits are required to burn vegetation, wood and paper products, and anyone planning an outdoor fire should check the daily Forest Fire Hazard Map daily to determine the level of risk in their area.
