The Harbour Breton Volunteer Fire Department is partnering with Archie Comics for a special fundraising effort.
Fire department member Kevin Hickey says he’s been involved in the comic book world for some time and decided to use some of his contacts to make the comic book a reality.
The limited, special edition of the Archie Comic features Jughead in a tree with members of the fire department coming to his rescue. He scampered up the tree and got stuck to avoid “kissing the cod.”
Hickey says residents are excited about being featured in the legendary comic.
“We’re getting an amazing response,” says Hickey. “Everybody wants to have this awesome, unique keepsake that features characters that they’ve all grown up with and know and love.” He admits, “it’s kind of like an out-there idea that hasn’t really been tried before. Even for the team at Archie Comics, this was the first time that they’ve helped put together a comic book that was specifically going to be used for fundraising purposes.”
One-hundred and fifty comics are available through a qualifying donation to their annual telethon this Sunday, April 27th from 1-5 p.m. and livestreamed on the Harbour Breton Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page.
The remaining 100 comics will be offered through a raffle.
The Viking Trail was famously featured in an Archie comic a few years ago.
