Students from Memorial University have created a yard sale aimed at diverting used items from student dorm rooms from ending up in the St. John’s landfill site.
Last year, the group raised nearly $3,000 for local food banks, and they hope to exceed that amount this year.
Margarita A. Conway from MUN Students First says they wanted to use a pay-what-you-can model to make it more affordable for all.
She’s hopeful that the clothing, bedding and items will prove useful, especially to new students coming in.
The event runs today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hatcher House Commons.
