Spring is here and the RNC is issuing a reminder to young riders of the importance of adhering to off-road vehicle laws.
Last summer the RNC and emergency health care officials raised the alarm about the number of serious injuries resulting from ATV or off-road vehicle use.
At the time, close to 30 per cent of all injuries involving motorized vehicle accidents and showing up in metro-area emergency rooms were as the result of off-road vehicles.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says as the weather warms up, it’s important to remember the rules surrounding responsible off-road vehicle use.
“Regulations state that anyone under the age of 16 shall not operate an off-road vehicle without supervision. That is a very important factor, because we have had in recent months scenarios where young people are operating dangerously…and it results in injuries.” He says violations can result in infractions against the owners of the vehicles or the parents of the drivers.
