There will be no trial for two men charged in the wake of a fatal crash on Peacekeepers Way three years ago.
The jury trial was scheduled to start this week.
But that won’t happen now that the Crown has withdrawn charges of criminal negligence causing death against both men.
The crash occurred on June 7, 2022, and claimed the life of 56-year-old Duane Hutchings.
He was the driver of a Toyota Corolla that was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by 30-year-old Sam Tessier.
Tessier and 61-year-old garage owner Cecil Walsh were charged after investigators said unchecked mechanical issues may have caused the crash.
But the Crown said that new information received just last week has made the prospect of convictions unlikely in the case.
Walsh, meanwhile, still faces dozens of fraud and forgery charges linked to vehicle inspections.
A third man admitted forging inspection documents and got a suspended sentence with a year of probation for the lesser role he played.
