This is Road Safety Week in Newfoundland and Labrador, a time when police step up enforcement to catch drivers who break the rules of the road.
The RNC conducted a blitz in Conception Bay South a couple of days ago, handing out about 50 tickets in the process.
Constable James Cadigan of the RNC says officers will not only be setting up blitzes this week, but will continue to do so throughout the summer.
He doesn’t have statistics on the number of traffic infractions being recorded, but says all they need to know is that illegal driving habits continue to endanger everyone on the road.
“We are detecting unsafe, dangerous behaviour on our highways, so if you’re going to operate a vehicle in a dangerous manner, you can expect to be stopped by the RNC, get a call from us, or be reported by someone in the community,” says Cadigan.
