A St. John’s murder case is back before the courts today in an effort to streamline the potentially complicated matter.
Today’s so-called focus hearing is designed to clarify the key issues and prevent interruptions and delays during the coming preliminary inquiry, and possible trial.
And with three defendants, each accused of second-degree murder, there is certainly potential for that.
Forty-two-year-old Brad Morrell, 51-year-old Jason Wells, and 37-year-old Veronica Whalen are charged in the death of 31-year-old Dylan Jordan on July 31st of last year.
All four lived in the same area of town, near the intersection of Golf and St. Clare avenues.
Police have only said there was a “physical altercation” before the victim ended up dead in the middle of the road.
Officers surrounded a nearby home, where the three suspects were hold up, and arrested them without incident.
A five-day preliminary inquiry is set for next month, after which a judge will decided if there’s enough evidence to warrant a trial.
Evidence presented at the inquiry, as well as today’s focus hearing, is banned from publication.
