The provincial government says it could be weeks before the 20-cent per litre sugar tax comes off the price of certain drinks.
Government is working with wholesalers to remove the tax, but Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says it could take some time.
Since its implementation in 2022, Coady says the tax has changed some habits, especially among young people.
“What we’re seeing is those in the older demographic are continuing to buy sugar-sweetened beverages, but the younger demographic certainly has gotten the message,” she said. “One of the key things we want to get across is the education piece.”
