Fort Amherst Homecare has become the first personal homecare operator in the province to become accredited by a third-party organization.
The organization, which operates four care homes that care for about 400 seniors, has received the designation from Accreditation Canada.
What that means, according to president Mike Powell, is that they have gone through a multi-year audit process whereby their policies and procedures were reviewed to make sure they meet national standards and best practices.
Powell says the audit went through every aspect of their business.
He says a review of their clinical delivery is what really drew them to the process. That would include things like medication management, complaint management, and workforce management. He says the review also looked at strategic oversight and governance.
