The MHA for Bell Island is remembering former Mayor Gary Gosine as one who was passionate about his community.
Gosine passed away yesterday at the age of 67.
Fred Hutton says the long-time mayor was one of the most dedicated that he came across in his journalism and political career.
Last year, Hutton awarded him the 75th Anniversary of Confederation Medal at his home.
He says Gosine didn’t fully understand the impact that he had on the community.
“I don’t think Gary really knew what an impact he had on the island and on the province. Because he was so unassuming, it was hard to know if he really realized,” Hutton told VOCM News.
“He thought he was just working hard for the people and not realizing how much good he had done. And it was really quite something to watch and something that will stick with me for a very long time.”
