Ensuring the province’s mining industry has the skilled labour it needs is a major focus for Mining NL.
Executive Director Amanda McCallum says the minerals resource sector is experiencing ‘unprecedented’ growth, representing 9.3 percent of GDP. The Baie Verte Peninsula is particularly active, and they need workers.
‘Firefly Metals, Maritime Resources, and Shoreline Aggregates—those three companies alone, that cluster within this region—will likely need over 1,000 workers in the next two to three years,’ says McCallum.
Supporting this boom means the region also requires additional infrastructure, such as housing, and services like childcare.
