An eight-week suicide prevention program in the metro region is helping participants through mindfulness and meditation.
The sessions are led by mindfulness instructor and trainer, Andrew Safer, with support from several other people.
Safer says people will learn ways to work with their own minds and thoughts.
He says people often feel like a “victim” of their own thoughts, and they can feel overwhelmed and go down rabbit holes.
He says the sessions help people form a more mature relationship with their thoughts, so that people can understand the nature of their thoughts and not get caught up in the content of them. He argues that it gives people more agency, and reduces the feeling that they are being “trapped” by their thoughts.
