An MHA on the Avalon says the government is doing a ‘terrible job’ keeping highways safe.
Loyola O’Driscoll, the MHA for Ferryland, states he has sent numerous emails to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure since last fall regarding brush cutting, but to no avail.
He says the situation has reached a point where it is difficult for drivers to stop in time to avoid striking an animal. O’Driscoll recounted a story told to him at a Baltimore High graduation ceremony: a person said the only reason they avoided hitting a moose in LaManche Park was because they were driving at 50 km/h, well below the posted speed limit.
