An impaired driving arrest in the east end of St. John’s ended up taking a violent turn last evening.
Police were called just after 9:00 last night after a man was spotted drinking while driving through a neighbourhood.
When officers attempted to arrest him for driving under the influence, the man got rowdy and began kicking and spitting on the officer.
The 33-year-old was then taken to hospital where he continued to kick up a fuss.
He’s facing a slew of charges including assaulting a police officer, refusing the breathalyzer, uttering threats, and causing a disturbance.
He was taken to the lockup to appear in court. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized.
