A young man charged with manslaughter in the death of another man in the Rabbittown area of St. John’s will remain in custody for now following a brief court appearance today.
Twenty-three-year-old Dylan Baker seemed indifferent to the proceedings as he was escorted into the courtroom.

He said nothing during the brief appearance before Judge Mike Madden, who earlier commented on the unusually high number of people in the gallery.
Most were there for Baker’s bail hearing on behalf of the 63-year-old victim, Edgar Learning.
Police have said little about the circumstances surrounding the homicide, other than they responded to the area of Salisbury Street between 12-1 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, June 17. There, they found Learning with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital, but died the next day.
The day after that, Baker was charged with manslaughter, assault with a weapon and possessing one for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation. At the time he was on release and facing a previous charge of breaching probation.

Police have appealed for any video of the streets immediately around Salisbury Street at the time of the crime.
Baker, meanwhile, had his bail hearing postponed today after he consented to remain in custody pending his next court appearance on July 18.
