A PC MHA says a new medical transportation program with Hope Air has formed a “tiered system.”
Earlier this week, government unveiled a pilot program with Hope Air to provide free transportation and accommodations for those who must travel for medical treatment.
It’s set up for those who have what the government describes as a “moderate” household income of $60,000 or less.
Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans says people are being “left behind” and the move has created more “barriers” to health care in Labrador.
“On average, they can’t average more than $30,000 each up to $60,000 together. And if you’ve got an adult child or a young person who can’t afford to move out who’s working, that’s added in and factored in as well. ($60,000) is considered moderate income? $60,000 for a household in Labrador is not considered moderate income because you can’t afford to live on that.”
