Childcare advocates are slamming the government for not being “ready” to release more childcare spaces in the province.
On Friday Education Minister Bernard Davis released several spaces for the Avalon Peninsula, but stated that, among other factors, they weren’t “ready” to release units for other parts of the province.
Patrice Gordon with Childcare Now called it “not a good look” for the government, stating that a lack of childcare spaces is forcing families out of work.“We’ve been to Labrador, we’ve been to other parts of the province, and the childcare, the spaces are lacking, people can’t go to work, people can’t go to school if they want a further education,” she told reporters.
“The children aren’t benefiting from being home, there’s no development in their childhood days.”
