A new medical clinic geared toward new Canadians has been approved for 50 Mundy Pond Road in St. John’s.
The proposal by Morgan Enterprises Limited received unanimous support during yesterday’s St. John’s council meeting.
NL Health Services moved its Family Care Team East from Mundy Pond to Major’s Path last year but had continued to operate a walk-in clinic at the site.
Councillors Tom Davis and Ron Ellsworth suggested the new clinic will replace the current one which is moving elsewhere.
Written notices were sent to nearby property owners, there were ads in The Telegram, and the plan was posted on the city’s website.
But there were no submissions for or against the new clinic, which will operate 8 to 5, Monday to Friday.
Councillor Ron Ellsworth, speaking for the absent ward councillor Greg Noseworthy, said the clinic is “specific” but not exclusively for newcomers.
“So this, as identified, is specific for new Canadians to assist in their integration into the medical system, and programs and services going into the area would certainly service the residents in the immediate area also.”
