Fire suppression efforts are continuing in Chance Harbour today both on the ground and in the air, and if conditions remain stable crews are optimistic that the only impact to nearby communities will be smoke.
The size and state of the fire has not changed much over the last day or so. That said, cabin owners in the Great Chance Area have been asked to leave, and people in the communities of Jamestown and Winter Brook have been asked to be on the ready.
Fire duty officer Mark Lawlor says air tankers are active and they will try to get ground crews working when they can but that might be a bit difficult given predicted fire behavior today. However, he says they had success with the air tankers yesterday, and he’s hopeful they will again today.
