About eight years ago, a young girl watched blood donations save her brother’s life now she is looking to do the same for other people in need.
In 2017, David Young of Conception Bay South was diagnosed with Burkitt leukemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bones.
After a combination of blood transfusions and chemotherapy, Young beat his cancer.
His sister, Maria Young, watched all of this unfold and vowed that when she was able, she too would give blood.
Now, Young is doing exactly that, and has organized a blood drive.
Young says she has seen the impact that blood donations can have, and she always knew that she wanted to organize a blood drive to mark her first time donating so that she could make a difference.
The blood drive is taking place on July 22 at All Saints Anglican Parish in Foxtrap.
