A man is facing a slew of charges related to the possession of explosives following an incident in Bay Roberts last week.
RCMP were first called last Wednesday, July 9th, following a report of bomb threats being made to a local business. At the time, 24-year-old Jonah Woodman was arrested without incident at the scene and charged with uttering threats.
The next day the RCMP, along with Explosive Disposal Units from RCMP federal policing and the RNC, searched a vehicle belonging to Woodman in Bay Roberts, and a home in New Harbour.
They say the search uncovered chemicals and other materials consistent with building homemade explosives, but nothing had been assembled.
Now Woodman is facing 12 more charges, those are:
- Possession or control of an explosive substance – two counts
- Possession of an explosive substance with intent to cause an explosion for an unlawful object – two counts
- Unlawfully make or manufacture an explosive, not in a licensed factory and without authorization under the Explosive Act – two counts
- Unlawful possession of an explosive, without authorization under the Explosives Act — two counts
- Unlawfully manufacture unmarked plastic explosives, not for a purpose authorized by the Chief Inspector of Explosives – two counts
- Unlawfully possess unmarked plastic explosives, not in accordance with the regulations and without lawful authority – two counts
The accused appeared in court on Tuesday, and again Thursday afternoon.
