Three health-related entities are getting a financial boost from a memorial softball tournament in central Newfoundland this weekend.
The Leo Brothers Memorial Softball Classic Committee will donate $60,000 tomorrow afternoon. The Lionel Kelland Hospice and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre will receive $25,000 each, with the remaining $10,000 going to the emergency department at the hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Robert Canning, chair of the tournament committee, says the event continues to be one of the highlights of the summer.
This year’s Leo Brothers Memorial takes place at the Faulkner Recreation Complex in Bishop’s Falls today through Sunday. In addition to softball, there will be live entertainment, raffles and other activities.
