More residents of the Avalon Peninsula have been ordered to evacuate their towns as the risk from area wildfires increases.
Shortly before 3 p.m. an emergency alert was issued to evacuate the town of Perry’s Cove, about 10 kilometres south of Kingston in Conception Bay North, where one fire continues to burn.
About 10 minutes later, an expanded evacuation order was issued for the town of Holyrood from the northeast town boundary to 377 Conception Bay Highway, in the vicinity of the Irving.
Some residents of the town had already been relocated on Monday due to a wildfire.
An evacuation alert has also been issued for the town of Salmon Cove.
Officials say the orders and alert are necessary “due to changes in fire behaviour and wind predictions.”
Meanwhile, the Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Department said in a Facebook post that it is aware of “a fire visible from town, near the Bay d’Espoir highway. Forestry has been contacted and will be actioning the fire.”
