The statue of Amelia Earhart, stolen from Harbour Grace back in April, has been located and is in police custody.
Mayor Don Coombs provided the long-awaited update on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly this morning.
Coombs says the statue was found, in pieces, in the Trinity Bay area, but because the discovery is part of an ongoing theft investigation, he’s not at liberty to say much more.
RCMP say the statue was found in a wooded area near Heart’s Content on Friday.
He says the statue is in the possession of the RCMP, and he’s hopeful that it will be returned to the town as soon as possible.
He says the statue is in pieces, but the cuts are clean, and once she’s released they’ll be in contact with sculptors Luben Boykov and Morgan McDonald to see how she can be put back together and brought back to her rightful place.
