The provincial NDP questions whether new RNC special constables will tackle “bigger concerns” like community relations and trust building.
Government announced a few days ago the recruitment of 10 to 12 special constables to perform roles including administrative tasks, traffic control, and handling found property.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn says the RNC is on “shaky ground” with many individuals, including those from diverse and Indigenous communities.
Dinn, while stressing the need for community policing, is calling for a recruitment strategy that promotes gender balance and representation of under-represented groups.
