It’s still early days, but the Department of Education is working to ensure that the students and staff at Cabot Academy are taken care of.
Western Bay lost approximately 86 metered structures, including the school, while neighbouring Ochre Pit Cove lost 59. The Conception Bay North Shore as a whole lost approximately 203 structures.
Minister Bernard Davis says they’ll work with the families of students and staff on a case-by-case basis to figure out where they’ll be at the start of the school year just two weeks away.
“Obviously school is starting in the next couple of weeks, and we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to make that as seamless as possible for those who have been impacted. Our hearts and prayers go out to those families that are living this. It’s a nightmare for them and we’re trying to make this as easy as possible.”
