Liberal Leader and Premier John Hogan was in Happy Valley-Goose Bay today to highlight the potential benefits to the region from the MOU reached between NL Hydro and Hydro Quebec.
The Liberal Party says it will establish a Churchill Transformation Readiness Strategy for Labrador to help the region prepare for economic development and the infrastructure needed.
Hogan says it’s important that Labrador communities are prepared for the socioeconomic impacts and opportunities expected.
He says with any mega-project there are “always unintended consequences” Hogan told reporters in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, “and I think before we start down the road of further mega-projects in Labrador…I think we need to be ready for those potential consequences.” That’s why the party is vowing to establish a Churchill Transformation Readiness Strategy “so that we don’t face the same difficulties that this community and other communities faced as a result of Muskrat Falls.”
He says the committee will ensure a strategy going forward before shovels go in the ground on any future mega-projects in the area.
