A peaceful protest is being held in downtown St. John’s this morning on the four-year anniversary of the deaths of two fishermen.
Twenty-five-year old Marc Russell of Mary’s Harbour, 30-year-old Joey Jenkins of Lodge Bay, and their vessel the Island Lady were never located after failing to return from a fishing trip on this day four years ago.
An investigation from the Transportation Safety Board found that neither the vessel, nor the crew carried operable distress alerting devices, and no distress call was ever received.
People from the Labrador Coalition for Search and Rescue and the FFAW will gather outside the Canadian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre at 9 a.m.
