Liberal Leader John Hogan has committed to building a new transmission line, and more seniors housing in Labrador West.
Hogan made the commitments during a campaign stop in the region earlier today.
He says, if re-elected, his party will work with industry and NL Hydro to build a transmission line that will support industrial, commercial, and housing development in the region.
Hogan argues it will be important, given that projects under the MOU are expected to increase NL Hydro’s capacity fourfold.
Hogan told supporters in today’s campaign stop that the new line will transmit the electricity that Labrador stands to gain through the MOU with Quebec, and allow Lab West to “finally meet its full potential.”
Hogan says the increased capacity will support the potential expansion of mining operations at IOC and Tacora, possible developments related to the Kami Project, and the undeveloped iron ore deposit at Julienne Lake.
Hogan has also announced that the Liberal Party plans to advance plans for 40 new seniors housing units in collaboration with the town of Labrador City.
