A man has been charged after a woman was struck by an axe and seriously injured.
RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay responded to a 911 call on Friday afternoon indicating that a woman had been struck by a man wielding an axe.
Officers arrived at the scene at Gull Island and found the victim covered in blood and in need of immediate medical attention.
She was rushed to hospital and while serious, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The alleged suspect had fled the scene before police arrived. He was later located and arrested without incident.
Twenty-eight-year-old Maurice Mark was charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was remanded to custody pending a bail hearing.
