Elections NL is unable to disclose whether or not complaints have been filed, or comment on any specific allegations.
Elections NL was responding to questions about whether or not it was aware of allegations made via social media regarding a candidate in the provincial election.
A man Lin Paddock describes as his estranged brother made a recent post to his Facebook page alleging wrongdoing during the byelection in the district of Baie Verte-Green Bay.
Paddock called the allegations made “completely erroneous,” saying he’s not currently under investigation by police or Elections NL.
The agency says out of respect for the electoral process, it is unable to comment on specific allegations or to disclose whether or not complaints have been filed.
If Elections NL does receive a complaint related to political contributions, it is reviewed to determine if further investigation is necessary – and if a violation is found, appropriate action would be taken as outlined in the Elections Act.
PC Leader Tony Wakeham declined to comment further on the allegations.
