A man who devoted much of his life to the betterment of the community has passed away.
John McGrath, a lawyer, was a leader and builder in the sporting community serving as President of Sport NL, President of the NL Soccer Association, and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the NL Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into two halls of fame (soccer and sports.)
McGrath was also heavily involved in the St. John’s Maple Leafs AHL hockey team and helped organize the 1985 Honduras-Canada soccer match at KGV.
John McGrath, who was 75, is waking at Carnell’s this evening until 8:00 with funeral services taking place tomorrow at the Basilica starting at 11:00.
