The legal fate of two Protect NL members remains as murky as the industry they’re pushing back against.
Brenda Lee Kitchen and Jennifer Whiteway were arrested and charged with unlawful occupation of government property during a protest at Confederation Building last November.
The group has long questioned the pace of developing wind energy in the province, but weren’t satisfied with government’s response.
So they anchored a large, colourful boat in the parking lot outside the main entrance to get their attention.
It worked, but was allegedly against property regulations, and after several warnings to remove it, police moved in.
Kitchen and Whiteway, meanwhile, have filed a Charter application alleging a breach of their right to peaceful demonstration.
Arguments on that issue will be heard when the case resumes in mid-January.
