Two men have been arrested and charged after police say they used heavy equipment to smash into the RBC in Mount Pearl to steal the ATM inside.
Thieves hit the RBC on Commonwealth Avenue in the early morning hours of January 13, leaving the building in shambles.
An excavator believed to be used in the crime was found at the scene.
Now, 30-year-old Joshua Weir and 61-year old Lawrence Whelan have been charged in connection with the incident.
Both Weir and Whelan have been charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $5,000, and mischief over $5,000. Weir is also facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation.
Weir was sentenced to two years in jail earlier this year in connection with a similar incident in which an ATM was ripped from the Credit Union in Witless Bay two years ago.
He was also charged in a smash-in robbery at the RBC in Holyrood last December.
Both of the accused will appear in court at a later date.
