NAPE President Jerry Earle says he’s hoping to have a sit-down with Premier-designate Tony Wakeham to find ways to move away from public-private partnerships when it comes to developing public infrastructure.
Earle says while he’s glad to see movement on critical infrastructure, he would rather see governments abandon the P-3 model.
He says the biggest concern for public sector unions is the “privatization creep” they’ve seen over the last decade.
“We’ve had enough of it. I mean, to be quite frank, we’ve had enough of the privatization creep because public services should not be turned over to private entities,” says Earle.
“It’s not cost-effective, and it’s certainly not more efficient. That’s been proven in many instances.”
