A local grade 5 student was given the royal treatment after winning the St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s Fire Chief for a Day poster contest.
Moshika Vaithiyanathan attends Mary Queen of the World in Mount Pearl and won the honour with her Charge into Fire Safety poster on lithium batteries.
She says she researched the use and storage of lithium batteries and how prevent fires caused by batteries, which can overheat.
Moshika describes a recent encounter with firefighters at Mary Queen of the World.
She says the heaters were being cleaned out, and created some smoke, sounding the fire alarm. “We all got out safely,” says Moshika, “then I saw the fireman and fire trucks.”
Moshika was treated to lunch at McDonalds and was driven to and from school on board a fire truck. She also had an opportunity to meet with the mayors of St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Paradise.
