The development of liquid natural gas is among a long list of federal priorities in establishing greater Canadian resource-based development.
The federal government is committed to greater investment in LNG development.
Prime Minister Mark Carney says the benefits of LNG development go beyond addressing energy needs. LNG can also be used to develop greater global trade opportunities.
“LNG can help Canada build new trading relationships, especially in fast-growing markets in Asia. By 2040 it’s estimated that global LNG demand will rise by 60 per cent and Canada will be ready,” says Carney. “We’re home to the world’s fourth-largest reserves of natural gas, and we have the potential to supply up to 100 million tonnes of new LNG exports annually to Asia.”
