A Carbonear-based animal rescue organization is hoping for public support in order to help a cat that suffered serious injuries after being shot in the face.
Newliferescue is working to get the cat, named ‘Romeo’ the help it needs after it was apparently shot in the face.
Over the weekend owner Julia Parsons says she was contacted by one of their board members on the west coast who informed her of a cat with serious injuries to its face.
Romeo was taken to a vet clinic in Pasadena. Parsons initially thought he may have been hit by a car, but the clinic informed her that he had been shot.
Parsons says Romeo has had feeding tubes put into his neck because the injury has left him unable to eat.
A specialty veterinary surgeon will see the animal today in St. John’s to determine the next steps, but Parsons says there are a lot of unknowns.
Despite the severity of the injuries, Parsons describes the cat as being very pleasant.
She describes him as “happy as happy can be” given the circumstances, and “purring away.” She says Romeo’s condition is very hard to look at, but she is confident they will get him the help he needs.
