RCMP are investigating after a cat was allegedly shot in the face on the province’s west coast.
Newliferescue was contacted over the weekend about a cat with serious injuries to its face, and a veterinarian advised them that the injury was the result of a gunshot.
The animal, named Romeo, is now receiving care in St. John’s.
RCMP were called about the situation on Monday, noting that the animal did not have a collar or other identification.
They say the person who initially dropped the cat off did not provide their information, only to say the animal was found in the West Bay area – which is near Stephenville.
Police are urging that person, the owner of the cat, or anyone else who may have information about what happened to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bay St. George RCMP at 709-643-2118 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
