The Independent member for Humber-Bay of Islands has paid tribute to a young Corner Brook man who recently made a big difference for children in far-off Uganda.
Eddie Joyce travels to the African nation every year as part of charity work he does with the APEX Impact Foundation.
Joyce told the House of Assembly last week that Allister MacDonnell heard about the work he was doing in Africa, and knowing how important soccer equipment was to the young people there, decided he wanted to help.
“On his own initiative, Allister approached the Corner Brook United Soccer Club, the Paradise Soccer Club, the St. John’s Soccer Club, and the NL Soccer Association about what he wanted to do. Over 350 full sets of soccer uniforms were donated. Many with the price tags on it, valued over $10,000.”
He says the gift was accepted with excitement by the children in Uganda and he commended MacDonnell for his efforts.
“Allister is a true testament that distance and never meeting or knowing someone is not an obstacle in showing them love and appreciation.”
