Department officials expect to issue a tender for the permanent replacement of the Canning Bridge in Marystown in the coming weeks.
The bridge was closed to traffic three years ago due to serious structural issues.
A $5.7 million contract was awarded to Trident Construction in 2024 for the installation of a Bailey bridge re-connecting the two sides of the town – albeit via single-lane traffic.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the project scope has been expanded to include the replacement of a second structure on Ville Marie Drive.
Construction on a permanent bridge is expected to be completed by late 2028.
