The Town of St. Mary’s says it has been assured by Municipal Affairs Minister Chris Tibbs that the cleanup of the former fish sauce plant will be completed by this summer.
The town has been concerned about the abandoned structure for some time, but things came to a head earlier this winter when a violent windstorm knocked down part of the building exposing the toxic mess inside to the elements.
The town says the Town of Sunnyside has agreed to accept vats and bottles of fish sauce at its waste management facility for proper and responsible disposal.
A consultant has completed all the documents required and they have been submitted to the provincial government to proceed to tender.
