The provincial government is offering an update on consultations for the Operating Grant Program for daycares.
Several proposed changes to the program were sent to operators last month, sparking concern about what it could mean for the $10-a-day program as a whole.
Now, the province says $10-a-day childcare will continue through the 2026-2027 fiscal year, and funding will continue to be based on enrollment – not attendance.
Government is encouraging childcare centres to fill as many spaces as possible, saying it will work with providers over the next six months to increase enrollment.
Further, it says increasing enrollment thresholds will “help families access affordable child care services and aligns with the funding practices in most other provinces in Canada.”
Government also highlights the Early Learning Gateway as a more efficient way of connecting with families waiting for a childcare space.
Anyone with questions is asked to contact the department directly.
