A man from Trinity, Bonavista North, charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of two people, will find out in May if he’s going to trial.
Fifty-three-year-old Roger Hunt was charged around this time last year, following the tragedy in July of 2024.
The single-vehicle crash occurred just before 10:00 a.m. on July 23rd on Route 320 near Hare Bay.
Hunt is accused of being the driver of a truck that went out of control and crashed, killing his passengers, a man and woman both aged 62.
Hunt was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
It wasn’t until last February, seven months after the fact, that he was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death.
In Gander Provincial Court this morning, Crown and defence lawyers finished presenting their evidence and arguments at the preliminary inquiry, all of which is banned from publication.
Judge Jacqueline Jenkins must now deliberate and decide if there’s enough evidence to warrant a trial, with her decision expected on May 13th.
Hunt, meanwhile, remains free on conditions pending the judge’s ruling.
