The survivor of a rare eye cancer is sharing her story to raise awareness about the disease.
According to Ocumel Canada, ocular melanoma affects around 250 people across the country every year.
Sherry Agriesti received her diagnosis about six years ago.
When she was in university they discovered something similar to a mole in the back of her eye.
Though regular checkups on her eye have been done since that time, eventually the mole started changing.
Agriesti had to go to an ocular oncologist in Toronto to get formally diagnosed.
She stresses the importance of regular eye exams and early detection.
She says people should have their eyes tested yearly, and when they do, they should ask the optometrist to dilate their eye – which can help with a diagnosis.
