This coming September will mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City and the town of Gander says it will be holding special events to commemorate it.
On September 11, 2001, as the world seemed to stand still in were diverted there shock and horror, the town and its residents had to move quickly as 38 planes with nearly 7,000 passengers on board were diverted there.
The town says the anniversary is “deeply meaningful” to them and to many others around the world, and it is a time to “remember, reflect, and acknowledge the lasting impact of the day.”
A commemorative service is being planned for 2 p.m. on September 11 at the Steele Community Centre. Other events are also being planned.
People directly affected by the events of 9/11 are being invited to attend, including diverted passengers and crew, first responders, and residents of the region.
