RCMP have charged 52-year-old Ivan Loder with first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a woman in Grand Falls-Windsor this morning.
Police received a call for assistance at a home on Crescent Heights around 4:45 this morning.
The call prompted police to issue a public advisory asking drivers and nearby residents to avoid the area.
Responding officers found a woman dead inside the home and the suspect was identified on the scene and arrested.
Police say the accused and the victim knew each other.
Loder made his first appearance in court today.
The police investigation continues.
This morning’s homicide is the second violent incident in Grand Falls-Windsor in recent days.
On Wednesday, one person was airlifted to hospital in St. John’s with serious injuries after a shooting at a home on Main Street in Windsor. The suspect was found dead after fleeing the scene.

One person is dead and another is in custody as the result of an incident on Crescent Heights in Grand Falls-Windsor early this morning.
RCMP issued an advisory this morning about an increased police presence in the town as the result of an ongoing investigation.
It’s the second violent incident in the town this week.
One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a shooting on Main Street in Windsor Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect was later found deceased after fleeing the scene.
RCMP expect to release further information on this morning’s incident later today.
